How to get the most out of your smart home system

Take your security up a notch with our top tips for becoming a smart home ‘super user’ and get the most out of your ADT Smart Home system.
Push notifications and alerts
When you enable push notifications, you receive real-time alerts and notifications on the things that matter to you. Whether that’s emails, security alerts, or weather updates, you can customise your alerts so that you receive notifications on apps or web portal. Here’s how you can enable notifications:
- Go to ‘Menu’ in either your chosen app or web portal and tap ‘Notifications’
- Scroll to and select ‘Manage for All Recipients’. You’ll then see all the listed notifications available to you
- Tap on each app’s notification settings, then scroll to ‘Recipients’ to add or change
Top tip: Don’t forget to save any changes you’ve made.
Arming reminders
In a rush? Never worry about forgetting to the set your alarm again. Thanks to this clever feature, you have the power to set your alarm around your busy schedule. Set a specific time and day, and receive alerts directly to your device to inform you that your alarm wasn’t set. You can then activate your alarm remotely – wherever you are in the world.
To take advantage of this feature, simply enable ‘Arming Reminder’ in your settings.
Adding additional devices
By adding just one or two additional smart devices, such as a video doorbell or Indoor Wi-Fi Camera, you can take your security to the next level. By fully automating your home, you’ll then be able to unlock smarter features to customise, like setting rules and automation.
Rules
When it comes to settings rules on your Smart Home system, the possibilities are endless. It’s a great way to get all of your devices working together and to have full control over your system, especially during an event-based trigger.
Set rules to improve your home security through the use of video doorbells for instance. Depending on the schedule you set, your hallway lamp automatically switches on (connected via smart plugs) when motion is detected outside to deter burglars. You can schedule this to occur between sunset and sunrise on a weekday.
What’s more, rules are completely customisable to your home and lifestyle. The more ADT smart devices you have connected, the smarter the rules can become.
